winter carrots

I pulled these from the ground a couple of days before it started snowing again, on my mother's birthday--it would have been her ninty-seventh. It made me think again how she wasn't interested in gardening, which I believe she associated with loss and failure and sadness, and she put it behind her, with the other parts of her childhood that she didn't want to remember. She appreciated a good homegrown tomato though, if she didn't have to grow it herself.
I didn't do anything to these except clean, chop, and steam. They tasted like the ultimate essence of carrots, sweet and sharp and intense.

Also, she put all that nurturing, tending, arranging, etc. into the inside of the house. The yard was just an extension of "furniture." It was a very low maintenance yard (except for the grass).

She didn't have an exceptionally low maintenance house though.

The carrots are stunning. I love growing my own vegetables, not only because They taste so much better, but because it gives me such satisfaction knowing I did it all myself. I have really enjoyed reading your blog. keep posting!

Carrots from the ground bring back wonderful memories from my childhood :-) I used to love pulling one out of the ground, brushing it off, and just biting into it even with the little bit of dirt still on it.

nothing beats home grown veggies. I used to live in a house with a huge garden. I now live in a house with a tiny balcony. I am beginning to think of growing veggies in pots.

There's really nothing like homegrown organic carrots! I bet these are so delicious steamed. I'm thinking seriously about planting a box garden in my backyard in the next few weeks. It's time to plant veggies here in AZ. Cheers~

Some camping tents are assembled in different ways due to their size and manufacturer characteristics. You can set up a small ten for yourself but for a large one you need help of other persons. Whatever the type and size of the tent you have, the real thing is depend on how perfectly you follow the steps and instructions while fixing the camping tent.

Hi, I've realized you haven't blogged in quite awhile, but if you still check up on your comments, I think I have something that you would be interested in. Do you have any good recipes that are healthy? If you do, you should enter them into this cooking contest that's coming to Cleveland on September 25-26th..it's the Aetna Healthy Food Fight. You can go to healthyfoodfight.com for more details, but the deadline for Cleveland is September 8th. Oh, and throughout the contest, celebrity cooks will be judging (Bobby Flay, Sunny Anderson, Sara Moulton, or Cat Cora). Good luck if you decide to enter and if not, please post more recipes! :)
